The Bible

The Bible and Children/Youth

At St. Paul's we believe that children and youth should come to know and love the major stories in the Bible that define what we believe about God; God's mercy, love, compassion and justice for all. Every child receives a Spark Storybook Bible when they enter Children's Church. When they move into 4th grade, they receive a second Spark Bible which is an older version appropriate for their age. If you are new to St. Paul's and would like to receive a Bible just let us know!

The Bible 101

The Bible is a special book that contains the Holy Scriptures in two sections; the Old Testament and New Testament and were written by different individuals under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. The OT reveals God's mighty acts in creation, the deliverance of the people of Israel from bondage in Egypt, and the making of the old covenant with the chosen people. God's saving will for God's people is made known in the OT through the gift of the Law in the Ten Commandments and through the witness of the prophets. The OT is also known as the "Hebrew Scriptures." The NT describes the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Messiah, whose coming was foretold in the OT. It also tells the story of the creation of the Christian church through the gift of the Holy Spirit and presents the new covenant, based on love, which is the new relationship with God given by Jesus Christ to all who believe in him.
